One person is dead after a gun was accidently discharged inside of a 911 dispatch center.

The incident occurred on Friday around 1 a.m. at the Bell County Sheriff’s Department in Kentucky.

Kentucky State Police reported that two employees were exchanging fire arms when one of them went off and struck a 23-year-old.

The victim, identified as Kyle Garret, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators told reporters that non-sworn personnel are not allowed to bring fire arms into the dispatch center and that they discovered protocols were not being followed after the incident occurred.

The case remains under investigation.
