Post Irma: 22 Dead, No School, Curfews Lifted

President Trump will be getting a first-hand look at the damage from Irma when he visits Florida today.. The First Lady will be joining the president along with Vice President Mike Pence and his wife, Karen.

Martin, Palm Beach, Broward and Miami Dade County schools will be closed until Monday morning. Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County will OPEN four Club locations; Hobe Sound, Palm City, Port Salerno, and Stuart, Thursday, September 14 & Friday, September 15, so parents can return to work while schools are still closed. Power has not yet been restored at the Indiantown Club, preventing us from opening in that location.

The death toll in Florida as a result of Hurricane Irma is now at 22. Most recently 6 six elderly residents of a Hollywood nursing home died after they were living in the facility without air conditioning since the storm. 115 people were evacuated this morning and many are in critical condition. A criminal investigation is underway.

Officials have reported 37 deaths in the Caribbean, four deaths in South Carolina, and two deaths in Georgia. Meanwhile, firefighters carried a 97-year-old woman down 12 flights of stairs in a Miami-area building that has has been without power since Sunday.

Gasoline prices are skyrocketing post Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Gas prices jumped nine and-a-half percent last month, after falling one-point-four percent in July. Hurricane Harvey’s shutdown of Gulf Coast refineries had a lot to do with the August increase. Evacuations and generators have sucked the gasoline out of the sunshine state.

The Florida Keys took the biggest hit from the massive storm.. with nearly every structure either damaged or destroyed.

All curfews for South Florida have been lifted.
