President Trump Defends Son in Paris Press Conference

In a joint news conference with President Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris Trump declared the US relationship with France is very good and he also remembered the lives lost on the 100th anniversary American joining World War I.  The briefing follows private talks between the two leaders. Trump and Macron have deep differences on issues including trade and global climate change. The presidents were both asked by a reporter about the meeting Trump’s son took with a Russian lawyer.  Here is their response.

President Trump is defending his son’s character and is playing down a meeting that Donald Trump Jr. had with a Russian lawyer last year. During a news conference with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris today, the President said his son is a “wonderful young man” who merely took a meeting. Trump said nothing came of the meeting and he accused the media of blowing it out of proportion. He said most people in politics would have taken the meeting as it was billed as “opposition research” in the campaign against Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Earlier today Macron and his wife Brigitte greeted the President and First Lady Melania Trump outside a museum and hotel complex in Paris. There was a brief ceremony involving a French military band.  Then they toured The Dôme des Invalides, which contains Napoleon I’s tomb.
