Michael Woulfe

Michael Woulfe is a rare native South Floridian.  He was born at Jackson Memorial hospital when it was just a tent over a folding cot. (Just kidding.)  For a short time in his youth, he moved to Washington DC, but returned to the Miami area in 1969, graduating from North Miami High School.

Michael originally wanted to go into the construction business, but after a few years of sweating in South Florida’s sizzling summer heat, he realized he needed a change.  He eventually got the acting bug and landed many “extra” roles in forgettable movies, commercials and TV shows.  While Michael was doing some voice-over work, a friend suggested he try radio.  He was hired to work the weekend overnights at Miami’s 940 WINZ, where he learned and mastered his news skills.

During the 1990’s, as large corporations gobbled up radio stations across the country, Michael ended up working at WIOD, which now was co-owned with WINZ.  After a stint as News Director, Michael says he was becoming disappointed in what was happening to radio and started dreaming of early retirement. 27 years was enough!  That happened in 2006.

But by 2007, the radio bug bit Michael again.  WFTL called him.  According to Michael, “I wasn’t really thrilled with the idea of going back to radio, until I learned that the folks here wanted me to use my creativity to the limit. I was hooked.  It’s the first time in years I’ve been able to wake up every morning and be excited about heading off to work. This place is great. It’s a radio family like the way things used to be when radio was fun.”

When he’s not on the air, Michael likes to ride his motorcycles including his Triumph Bonneville T-100 and his old standby; a classic 1955 model Royal Enfield Bullet.  He’s also a member of the Broward British Bikers, and the Palm Beach British motorcycle club, “Riders of the Lost Empire.”

Listen for Michael every weekday morning between 6AM-9AM on News-Talk 850 WFTL.
