A Florida man has been sentenced to 90 days in jail after investigators found that he tied a dog to the back of his truck and began dragging it until it eventually died.

The incident occurred earlier this week in Pensacola, Florida.

A witness told authorities that they saw 71-year-old Thomas Ward dragging a pitbull behind the truck’s hitch and followed the man to his home where he called the police.

When authorities arrived at the scene, the found the dog’s lifeless body inside of a shed.

An examination of the dog’s remains showed the animal died from asphyxiation and wounds consistent with road rash.

Ward was sentenced last week, however, records show he previously pleaded no contest to one count of aggravated animal cruelty.
