FBI Probing Possible Links Between Trump Party and Russia

FBI director James Comey confirmed Monday that the FBI is looking into allegations that the Trump campaign coordinated with Russia last year, as a part of a broader investigation into Russian interference in last year’s presidential election .

During Comey’s opening statement in a congressional hearing, he acknowledged that bureau is investigating the possible connections between Moscow and Trump’s campaign, and said though the FBI does not normally speak on, ongoing investigations, he has been authorized to discuss certain aspects of the case due to extreme public interest.

Monday’s hearing is perhaps the most public account of investigations that have haunted the White House in the first few months of Donald Trump’s presidency.

A top Demcorat told reporters Sunday that the material presented in the Russian hacking case showed circumstantial evidence that American citizens colluded with Russians in Moscow’s efforts to interfere in the presidential election.

“There was circumstantial evidence of collusion; there is direct evidence, I think, of deception,” Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” ”There’s certainly enough for us to conduct an investigation.”

Devin Nunes said: “For the first time the American people, and all the political parties now, are paying attention to the threat that Russia poses.”

“We know that the Russians were trying to get involved in our campaign, like they have for many decades. They’re also trying to get involved in campaigns around the globe and over in Europe,” he said on “Fox News Sunday.”

The FBI has been investigating the Russian hacking allegations since July of last year, and Comey said Monday with all the new angles of the investigation, they have no clear time table as to when the investigation will conclude.

“This work is very complex, and there is no way for me to give you a timetable for when it will be done,” Comey told the House Intelligence Committee.

President Trump took to Twitter ahead of the meeting tweeting that the democrats made up the Russian allegations to distract from the real issue that there is someone leaking classified information.

“The real story that Congress, the FBI and others should be looking into is the leaking of Classified information. Must find leaker now!” – Trump tweeted.

Trump also said that the FBI should look into Hillary Clinton and suggested that Clinton’s campaign was in contact with Russia and had possibly thwarted a federal investigation.

Comey did not say whether they are investigating Hillary Clinton and a part of the Russian hacking probe.
