Father Arrested in Connection to Apartment Fire after Children Rescued

The father of two children who were rescued from a fire at the Stonybook Apartments Friday was arrested in connection with the fire. 22-year-old Velmando Williams was arrested early Saturday and charged with  attempted murder, false imprisonment, simple domestic battery, and first degree arson.

According to the report, the Riviera Police department received one called about a domestic dispute and multiple calls about a structure fire at the apartment complex.

When authorities arrived on the scene they were told that three young children were still inside the apartment. Authorities were able to rescue the children and their mother who told them that Williams set the fire as the result of an argument.

Williams was taken in for questioning and then transported to the Palm Beach County Jail, where he refused to make his first court appearance Saturday morning.

Those who were affected by the fire can pick up school uniforms from Dr. Mary Mcleod Bethune Elementary School until 2 p.m.
