Video shows the moment country singer Jason Aldean was forced to flee the stage as a gunman opened fire on a crowd of concert goers. Authorities say the gunman Stephen Paddock, opened fire from his hotel room at the Mandalay Bay resort across the street from the event around 9:40pm.  Aldean was said to have been an hour into his set at the Route 91 Harvest Festival when he was forced to flee the stage. A concertgoer posted a video showing Aldean performing on stage and then what sounds like fireworks in the background. Aldean continues singing and then immediately rushes off the stage as he and the crowd realizes they are being shot at.

Many concertgoers in the back ran away from the scene, while those in the front took cover near the metal barriers and waited to either be rescued or for a break in the gunfire so that they could escape.

58 people were killed and over 200 people were said to have been injured. As authorities zeroed in on the Paddock, he took his own life.

Aldean later posted on Twitter that he and his crew were safe and sent his thoughts and prayers out to those who were involved in the incident.

‘Tonight has been beyond horrific.

‘I still don’t know what to say but wanted to let everyone know that me and my crew are safe. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved tonight.

‘It hurts my heart that this would happen to anyone who was just coming out to enjoy what should have been a fun night. #heartbroken #stopthehate.’
