Jeff De Forrest

Jeff De Forrest, a ’73 graduate of Syracuse University, began his journalism career in California as Sports Editor of a suburban L.A. daily newspaper. After branching into radio, De Forrest recognized the wide-open opportunity in South Florida radio. By 1981 he was on his way to over 2 decades of on-air excellence with South Florida sports fans.

His first nightly Sportstalk show quickly rose to the top ratings position on Newsradio WIOD. As Miami expanded from a one pro franchise Dolphins town, to the Miami Heat, Panthers, Marlins, and major college powerhouse University of Miami, Jeff and sports media grew with the city.

Jeff was ultimately tapped to host morning drive on Miami’s first all-sports radio station- 560 WQAM. “The First Team” enjoyed 5 successful years.

By 2002, it was time to branch out. “Defo” developed a strong fan base in the Boca Raton-West Palm Beach market as he brought his special blend of sports talk to the market via the unique dual market coverage of 50,000 watt 850AM,WFTL.

Miami’s second all-sports station signed on in 2005, and Jeff started the daily line-up with an early morning stint on 790 The Ticket (WAXY).

His career came full circle in October 2007 as “Defo” came back to his News Talk roots, joining the 850-WFTL Morning News Team.  You can also hear him weekday mornings on our sister station, WFTL 640 Fox Sports.

“DeFo” has enjoyed TV exposure on Sun Network, FOX Sports, HBO, CBS 4-Miami. He has also served as pre and post game host for The Miami Dolphins Radio Network, as well as play-by-play for The University of Miami Hurricanes Football and Baseball Network.
